Editor's MusingsScams, scams, scams. They appear to be as inevitable as spam and email viruses. Unfortunately, newcomers are still getting taken in by them. I found the information below in I-cop Whistle Blower ezine. Whistle Blower routinely reports items like this. For a free subscription to Whistle Blower, go to this link. First, The Nigerian scam. You get an email from the relative of a dead official from Nigeria or some other country. You're asked to help them transfer money out of their country. As soon as they have your banking information, they "transfer" all funds out of your account. Allegedly, some people have lost thousands on this one. Cash EvolutionI'm not calling it a scam, but I am saying Buyer Beware. This money making "venture" closely resembles a pyramid scheme. Cash Evolution's lawyer claims that the program is legal in New Zealand where it originates. However, WorldWideScams recently published an unverified email from the New Zealand Marketing Commission saying otherwise. Pyramid schemes are illegal in New Zealand, the US, Canada, and probably in many other countries. Visit this link and click on CashEvolution for more information. Billing ScamsYou get an email supposedly from AOL or another service provider. You're told your monthly payment didn't process correctly, and you're asked to go to a web link and re-enter your credit card information. If you receive this email, do not reply. Contact your ISP and report the situation. The Lawyer and the Ezine Publisher ScamEzine publishers receive an email from someone claiming to be a retired lawyer. You're asked to send $1 to six names on a list and told that you will receive lots of cash as well as plenty of names to add to your mailing list. Like all chain letters, it doesn't work. The only people who make money are the ones who started the chain. =====================================================The Promote-Ivator -- Your Desktop Coach and Mentor! ---- Receive daily suggestions and reminders to promote your business! ---- Plan and track your marketing campaigns! ---- Rub shoulders with Internet Marketing Gurus! Anne ObarskiWhat does it take to make it in business? It seems recently that the companies that customers trusted for so long are closing their doors or involved in unethical scandals. Who would have thought that some of the big players in the retail world would find it hard to get and keep their once loyal customers? I believe every business has to work everyday at their focus on their most important asset, their customer. If you talked to the owner of a retail store and asked him or her why they decided to open up their own business, they would probably answer something like this. "We saw a need for a product that no one else offered and we knew we could offer it either in a larger quantity, more creatively displayed, with more unique advertising and in multiple sizes, every day of the year." That answer is the original dream of every entrepreneur. That answer was also the answer for K-Mart many years ago. Their inventory would reflect what the customer needed in the appropriate sizes and quantities and price. Yet recently I read an article in my local paper where a woman said the reason she changed her loyalty to Target from K-Mart was that K-Mart seemed to always be out of the items they had advertised. She said she didn't want a rain check or a "blue light" special she just wanted the advertised item. Is that request so complicated? Having the correct inventory is a matter of managing your purchasing dollars to the customer demand. Solid communication between the retailer and the vendor is mandatory to establish accurate delivery dates. Knowing the delivery dates of merchandise you plan to advertise is critical. I remember when I was a sportswear buyer for a large department store, that we could have been fired from our job if we ever ran an ad and did not have the merchandise in the store. There was never such a thing as running an "apology" in a section of the newspaper stating that the merchandise advertised was not available. That ad might as well be followed by, "but you can find that item at your local ______". If the customer wants it bad enough they will find out who has it and they will go there to buy it. Supply and demand is the basis for good marketing! The rules of balancing inventory is as follows:
I taught retail marketing classes at the college level for 15 years and I remember writing a test question as follows: "List the 5 Rights of Merchandising". Here is the answer. 1. The Right Merchandise2. The Right Time 3. The Right Quantity 4. The Right Price 5. The Right Location Would you have passed the test? Do you follow the "5 Rights"? Which ones do you have the most trouble with? Are you willing to do your homework? K-Mart didn't. Maybe we all can learn from the mistakes of the infallible.
================================================================ 3. Recommendations:Recommended Product: Autoresponseplus 3.0 I've used Autoresponplus to handle my autoresponder needs for a year or more, and I've always been pleased. However, when Version 3 was released in mid July, I was ecstatic. I've even started using it to send out The Roundup, replacing Mailloop bulk email software that I had used previously. Autoresponseplus 3 is tougher, more robust, and easier to use than ever before. Here's why I endorse this product with so much enthusiasm: First, the price. You buy the script for $99 and install it on your web site. That's a one time fee of $99. Compare that to the high monthly fees that you pay for most autoresponder services. Unless you like tossing your money away, you can't beat this deal. If you don't want to install the script yourself, you can get it professionally installed for a bit extra. Second, the features. You have unlimited, automated, scheduled followups for as many autoresponders as you want to create. You can even offer the choice of double or single opt in, and the choice of HTML or text messages. You can preview and test messages prior to sending. You can personalize messages. You can import and export your subscriber lists. The system handles bounces, so it's easy to delete dead addresses. Subscribers can subscribe and unsubscribe through email or a link. You can use the script to manage your mailing lists as well as for autoresponders. There is automatic backup, so no worrying about data being lost if your host's server crashes. And, should there be problems, the tech support is awesome. The only drawback is server compatibility. The script will not run on Windows or Mac servers, and of course, your host has to allow you access to various functions. I like this program enough that I actually changed web hosts on July 1 because my former host was charging me extra each time I wanted to create a new autoresponder. My new host is Hosting Matters. While I'm on the subject of recommended services, I'll add them to the list. Reasonable prices, lots of features, very reliable, and also awesome tech support. www.hostmatters.com Internet Sites -- reviewed by June Campbell *** World Almanac Online *** The Enron Scandal *** Deal Hunting *** It's All Business *** Test Your Typing Speed *** I-Courthouse 4. Joke: Investment AdviceIf you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would be worth about $49.00, today. With Enron, you would have about $16.50 of the original $1,000.00. With WorldCom, you would have less than $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser (the beer, not the stock) one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have about $214.00. Based on the preceding information, our current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle. -- found circulating on the Internet MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMDid you find this Ezine helpful?
