Perseverance is a quality to cultivate. Sometimes we encounter challenges that seem too big, as well as painful experiences that can leave marks. Although everything may seem lost in these moments, experiences like these are part of anyone’s life.

However, it is not always easy to gather strength within us to face them, right?

The unexpected has this characteristic of keeping people stagnant, whether in a situation (death, illness, or sudden dismissal) or a trauma (child abuse, parental abandonment, or bullying ). To face bad times or unhealed wounds, you have to make an extra effort.

At first, any extra attitude may seem out of the question. Tiredness, psychological exhaustion, and stress can prevent you from seeing possible solutions to problems. But believe me, they appear sooner or later when you are persevering!

When the urge to give up appears. The urge to give up can arise more quickly for some than for others.

Some people learn this behavior from their parents or develop it throughout childhood and/or adolescence. For example, parents who allow their children to give up everything without question encourage this behavior even though they are unaware of it.

Perseverance is the quality of those who do not give up easily and show consistency in their attitudes and behaviors. It allows goals to be achieved, even if it takes years of effort or changing paths to achieve them. Thus, patience and willpower are also characteristics of a persevering person.

Also, being persistent means learning from your mistakes to improve skills, ensuring better performance in the future. A person with this quality is not afraid to announce their “ failures ” because they consider them part of their path to success.

How to Improve Your Perseverance Skills

Some people are naturally more persevering while others need a little nudge to keep going. Probably, the lessons learned by the first group throughout life facilitated the development of perseverance. You can also develop this quality whenever you want!

1. Be honest with yourself

2. Motivate yourself daily

The only moment you can control is the present! In it, you can adjust your attitudes and make decisions aimed at your goal. So leave the past behind and don’t worry about the future. Have confidence that you will know how to act if or when adverse situations arise.

5. Try again, again and again

Wrong? failed? Failed? Try again. Try as many times as necessary. Yes, it’s frustrating to do the same thing thousands of times, but this process is essential to getting to the result. It doesn’t matter how many times you need to get back to “square zero” or how many mistakes you’ve made in the past. Try again until you get what you want!

6. Take care of your emotions

Taking care of the emotional means seeking inspiration to do a better job, resting when you feel you can’t go on, having fun with loved ones, motivating yourself daily, and not giving so much importance to failed attempts. Do everything you can to maintain a serene and content mood despite difficulties.

Optimism can take you far, you know? People rarely achieve their goals without positive thinking.

Your internal dialogue should be filled with friendly words and encouragement, not criticism. They will help you to strengthen your self-esteem and help you to ignore the temptation to give up. So, be your biggest source of support and get to work!
